Big Lake Fire Chief Seth Hansen tags out Silas Reek of the Big Lake police department, Friday, June 24.

To kick off the 2022 Spud Fest softball tournament, the Big Lake police and fire department played the sixth annual Guns and Hoses game on Friday, June 24. The police took a 4-2 series lead over the fire department after their 23-19 win in the latest rendition.

It was the second straight win for the police. After winning last year 21-17, the police got out to a large lead and nearly ten run ruled the fire department. The Hoses responded with a crooked number to bring it within a couple of runs, but the Guns held on to win.

It’s the second time the police have taken two in a row against the fire department. The fire department won the inaugural game 10-8 in 2016. The police then won back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018. The fire department evened the series up in 2019 and now the police enjoy a two game lead after the last two years.

There were plenty of runs scored between the two as their 42 combined runs was the most ever in the history of the series.
